Paris Spring 2012: Miu Miu

WHO: Miu Miu

WHO THEY ARE: “Miu Miu” is the second line by Miuccia Prada, but unlike the Prada line which shows in Milan, it shows traditionally in Paris. It also isn’t really “second” anymore – Miu Miu has its own style, shape and silhouette, and often, is not less expensive than Prada – but it DOES skew younger.

MAJOR COLOR TRENDS: black, red, black and red, black and tan, black and pale pink, pink prints mixed with grey prints, yellow prints, purple, pale pink satin

MAJOR TRENDS: The look was really the following silhouette: the fitted “shell,” or sleeveless top, tucked into pleated soft skirts flowing to the knee. Another application to the look was a pleated apron piece _ often in another color – over the skirt, making it jut out a bit more. Occassionally, Mrs. Prada mixed prints on the top with prints on the skirts, and then aprons in opposing prints – it was a little jarring, but pretty. There was also a brief showing of some close to the body Chinese style dresses in prints and bright colors. The hems were just above the knee – the Miu Miu minis of yesteryear are gone, for the moment. The overall feeling was one of girly schoolgirl sophistication.

RELEVANCE TO HOLLYWOOD: Most of these clothes were quite chic for cocktail or day wear, but most aren’t va va voom enough for a red carpet – expect those Chinese styles in prints. Only a real cool girl could get away with clothes these low key and Euro – calling Kirsten Dunst!!!
